America West: It Sucks To Fly and It Shows
The Ever-Hacky
Quite possibly, the airline is the only institution we are entirely at the mercy of. They reserve the right to change our flights, delay airplanes, open and close at will, lie to our faces, and absolutely rip us off. They can also change your flight itinerary from a nice, cushy 5-hour direct flight from San Francisco to Boston into a 13-hour travel day complete with a 3-hour layover in Las Vegas (which is just what I need - casinos at Christmastime)... this is what happened to me at about 10PM last night, when I logged on to AmericaWest.com to check-in. I'm glad I checked, otherwise I would have missed my new flight, and may have never arrived back home in Boston (since the genius airlines overbook all flights). So, instead of waking up at 5AM, I had to wake up at 3AM, which is not even worth going to bed for... but I did, because I'm an idiot. Now I've had a coffee on 3 hours sleep and today is going to be terrible.
I also want to mention this is my first entry (which you may have figured out by now), because I actually have the time to type it out. That's the other thing I hate about the flying process... the "hurry up and wait." We drive to the airport at least an hour and half before takeoff. All the fuss that goes into parking at an overpriced lot, tipping some guy that did nothing but slightly move his right foot and arms, standing in line for security in back of some college student who has her cat in a make-shift duffle bag kennel - only to sit in the terminal for 45 minutes until all the people rush to the door to get on the plane that they have already been assigned a seat on (except for the retarded folks at Southwest Airlines, they prefer the free-for-all seating). So I'm using my 45 minutes to write this boring blog entry. Time will tell if I actually keep this up, I don't fly too often.
