The Law & Order Doink Doink Sound
You Know Exactly What I'm Talking About
You know that "dramatic" sound that plays over the scene changes on Law & Order, where the black screen with white lettering pops up to tell you a location - "Johnson Residence. Tuesday, November 5, 2001" - well, Karena and I find it hilarious. I'm convinced it's a sort of alarm clock that keeps the viewers from nodding off (you can only bear Jerry Orbachs's bad jokes for so long, may he rest in peace). We thought it would be funny if that sound could be the ring tone on your cell phone, so when you're standing around all your yuppie friends, your cell rings, and everyone says - "Isn't that from Law & Order? That is AWESOME!" Wow, as I type this, I'm realizing how much of a huge geek I really am. But I'll do you one better... I actually found the Law & Order theme song in digital format online. I then proceeded to clip the "doink doink" out of the theme, create a WAV sound file, and set it as my "Email Announcement" tone in my Microsoft Outlook. I know. Sad. But at least I know I'm not alone... during my web searches for the doink doink, I found other blogs, news articles, and fan sites that would talk about it in holy context. I guess the little "Doink Doink" has a following. Just in case you are curious, here's a link to the sound file.
